Forbes School of Business® at Ashford University Debuts “Mentorship & Support” Video
Newest video in the 2015 Forbes Women's Summit series offers helpful advice on finding and maintaining mentor relationships

The Forbes School of Business at Ashford University has released its new “Mentorship & Support” video. The video is the latest in a series of educational and inspirational videos created during the 2015 Forbes Women’s Summit. It can be viewed online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFa_6g7a8y4.

The “Mentorship & Support” video features interviews with Ramona Pierson, founder of Declara; Alexandra Gleysteen, senior producer at CBS News; Melanne Verveer, U.S. ambassador; and Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In their interviews, they speak about how to reach out to potential mentors, what questions to ask, and the kind of help mentors can provide.

“Be persistent, look for lots of different mentors, and try to ask yourself ‘what is the one or two things that this person can help me with?’ and just try to limit it to that,” said Dr. Lavizzo-Mourey in the video. “That may be all the time that [a mentor] can give you and yet that would be such a gift.”

Faculty members at the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University also highlighted the value of actively cultivating relationships with multiple mentors.

“I have had several different mentors throughout my business career and community activities,” said Dr. Karen Ivy, program chair at the Forbes School of Business. “Different mentors have specific focus areas of their expertise. I would advise you to expand your mentor circle and enjoy the knowledge-sharing and growth you will attain.

“I would also advise you to consider being a mentor,” Dr. Ivy added. “The payoff is equally fine.”

The Forbes Women’s Summit took place on June 10, 2015, in New York City. It brought together 250 leaders from the worlds of business, philanthropy, education, media, and entertainment. As the official education partner for the summit, the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University had unique access to interview the leaders who participated in the event and gain their insight on several key issues. Those interviews have been compiled into a series of videos that the Forbes School of Business will continue to release over the next four weeks.
