Ashford University demonstrated its commitment to military and veteran students by hosting Operation College Promise Certificate for Veterans Service Providers (CVSP) training this week. More than 80 attendees participated in the event, including Ashford faculty, staff, and community partners.

The three-day training regimen, organized and operated by Operation College Promise (operationcollegepromise.com), is a national model for developing military-cultural competencies, complete with expert speakers, discussion groups, focused learning sessions, and military experiential simulations. This veteran-student support program is the first ever certification for professionals in the role of supporting return-adapting military and veteran populations, and expressly targets the needs of service members and their dependents.

“The CVSP program is designed to prepare and develop competency in supporting America’s student veterans,” said Poppy Fitch, director of Student Access and Wellness at Ashford University. “Ashford University’s support of our students means providing a learning experience that addresses the needs of the service members and veterans who choose Ashford to advance their educational goals.”

The CVSP curriculum includes background on the Post-9/11 GI Bill, conspicuous and hidden injuries suffered in modern warfare, resources for connecting veterans and their dependents with targeted support, and an analysis of trends in veterans support.
