Ashford University presented a check for $10,000 to the San Diego County Office of Education’s Outdoor Education Foundation. The foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, supports the outdoor education programs administered by the San Diego County Office of Education.

At a special ceremony held at Cuyamaca Outdoor School on February 24, representatives from Ashford presented a check to Outdoor Education Foundation president Mike Watson, Cuyamaca Outdoor School principal Gregory Schuett, and a group of teachers at the school. Also present were 65 sixth-grade students from César Chávez Elementary School who were attending Cuyamaca Outdoor School for the week.

“Cuyamaca Outdoor School, which is operated by Ashford’s partners at the San Diego County Office of Education, is the only outdoor program in San Diego County featuring credentialed teachers and a curriculum aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards,” said Jennifer Love Bruce, associate vice president of community relations for Ashford’s parent company, Bridgepoint Education. “It was a natural fit for us to provide the students with a unique outdoor education opportunity that will allow them to experience science and nature firsthand.”

Ashford’s donation will be used to pay for a week of outdoor education for the students attending Cuyamaca Outdoor School. This is the first time in four years César Chávez Elementary School has been able to send students to sixth grade camp.
