Approximately 4,500 people, including members of the U.S. military and their families, enjoyed a fun-filled Veterans Day at San Diego’s Salute to Service Festival. The third annual festival, sponsored by Ashford University, took place on the deck of the USS Midway aircraft carrier overlooking the beautiful San Diego Harbor.
“It is a privilege for all of us at Ashford to sponsor the Salute to Service festival. It’s just one way that we have chosen to say ‘thank you’ to our military members for their selfless service to our country,” said Dr. Richard Pattenaude, president and chief executive officer at Ashford University and a Vietnam veteran. “We are a dedicated partner of the military and are committed to educating our nation’s heroes.”
The event, which offered free entry to anyone with military identification, was held on November 11 from 1-3 p.m. It featured live music from Southbound Jonny, a San Diego country band, and Trevor Davis, a local artist who appeared on NBC’s hit show The Voice. Food was provided by Jersey Mike’s, Jimbo’s Natural Foods Grocer, Pepsi, and Slater’s 50/50.
Some lucky attendees were the recipients of giveaways and raffle prizes awarded throughout the day. Top prizes included a trip for four to Universal Studios Resort in Orlando, Fla., a Hawaiian vacation for two, a trip to Mexico, tickets to Universal Studios Hollywood, and more.
