“Proof,” a play that explores love, the mysteries of mathematics, and a psychological question, will be presented in Ashford University’s Mullany Theater at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11.
Kris Doss, who previously directed Ashford’s productions of “Clue” and “All in the Timing,” will also direct “Proof.” He graduated from the University of Dubuque with a B.A. in Theatre and a B.S. in Psychology.
Summarizing the play’s plot, Doss said, “Catherine is celebrating her 25th birthday after spending years caring for her ailing father, Robert, who has just passed away. Her estranged sister, Claire, tries to help Catherine out. This happens while Hal, who was one of Robert’s former math students, tries to find something valuable in the 103 notebooks Robert left behind. Catherine confronts Hal about his true intentions and Claire about her tendencies for taking control as the question is asked throughout the show: how much of her father's madness – or genius – will Catherine inherit?”
Written by David Auburn, “Proof” won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001 as well as the 2001 Tony Award for Best Play.
Performing in the four-person play will be Samantha Walter, a junior at Ashford University, and Matthew Espey, Rachel Winter, and James Shemwell, seniors at Clinton High School.
“Proof” is open to the public. This play is intended for mature audiences due to some adult language.
