Scholars Institute Schedules Spring Symposia at Ashford University
Variety of campus programs offered

The Scholars Institute, Ashford University's honors program, has scheduled its series of symposia for the spring 2013 semester beginning Jan. 22. All of the presentations will be held in St. Clare Hall Room C3600 (the former chapel) at 6 p.m. and are free and open to the public. A reception will follow each event.

On Tuesday, Jan. 22 senior students in the general education capstone class will present their research papers. Students who will present papers include Theresa DeReus, Savanna, IL; Erika Fisk, Washington, IL; Jared Walsh, Mazon, IL and Rachel Yoder, Farley, IA.

Dr. Duane Larson, Ashford University associate instructor who recently returned from a two-week trip to the Middle East, will speak on “Peace for Israel and Palestine?” on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Community members and student Lindsay Aiello, Sterling, IL, will present “Israel, Palestine and Peace: A Roundtable Discussion” as part of Aiello’s senior independent study on Tuesday, March 19.

Six students – three Republicans and three Democrats – each representing different parts of the country, will participate in a mock presidential debate on Tuesday, April 16. The students from Dr. Alex Cohen’s political science class will be moderated by a “distinguished panel” of experts.

Members of the Scholars Institute have the opportunity to participate in seminar-style, interdisciplinary courses, as well as research projects and internships while enrolled at Ashford.
