Thanks to employees of Ashford University and Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), Military teachers and students received a pleasant surprise when they arrived at school today. Nearly 150 employees and their families spent all day Saturday revitalizing the Mary Fay Pendleton School located on Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton.

“Ashford University’s giving mission is committed to three focus areas: education, military and youth. This effort was especially unique because it touched on all three,” said Dr. Elizabeth Tice, president of Ashford University. “The volunteer event was a perfect opportunity for employees to give back to the community and demonstrate exceptional teamwork for a worthy cause.”

Working with the United We Paint Coalition, Ashford University and Bridgepoint Education provided all of the paint, ladders, supplies and volunteers to complete the job.

The school is located on Camp Pendleton and serves approximately 900 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, the majority of who are military dependents and children of civilian parents who work on base. The exteriors of five buildings were painted, totaling more than 600 manpower hours. According to United We Paint, professional painters estimated the job would have cost about $61,375 if it had been contracted out.

"We are honored and humbled to receive this wonderful gift. Our community is very thankful to Bridgepoint Education, Ashford University and United We Paint for selecting Mary Fay Pendleton,” said Joe Dominguez, principal at Mary Fay Pendleton School. “Your contribution has made our school a more inviting place for our staff, parents, and most importantly, our students. We appreciate your gift and your partnership as we at Mary Fay teach and inspire our next generation of heroes and leaders."
