Ashford University Spotlights Shelly Mathewis as Alumni Success Story
Human resources professional named Ashford's Outstanding Alum of the Week

Wanting to close the gap between her professional and academic achievements, Shelly Mathewis enrolled at Ashford University to pursue her higher education goals. Because of her achievements in parlaying her education into career success, Mathewis has been named Ashford’s Outstanding Alum of the Week.

“I knew there were some opportunities that I wanted to seek and, although I had the professional experience, I wanted to have that education behind it,” Mathewis said. She found that education at Ashford where she earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies, graduating magna cum laude. On her graduation day, she was already planning her next move – a master’s degree at Ashford.

“My hard work was already paying off,” said Mathewis. “Because of my accomplishments of graduating undergrad and pursuing my graduate degree program, I have received several promotions with my employer.”

Among Mathewis’ favorite aspects of being an Ashford online student is the accessibility of the faculty members. “They were always available and very responsive. If I had a question, I could send them a quick email or call them on the phone, and they always responded to every need that I had.”

“It’s been a long journey to get to this point,” Mathewis added. “But being able to accomplish this goal and better myself personally as well as professionally has been worth it.”

The Ashford University Outstanding Alum of the Week recognition was created to spotlight Ashford success stories and graduates who have used their Ashford education as a springboard to personal and professional achievement.
