Ashford Student Art Show Draws Many Submissions
Art awards presented to Ashford University students

Ashford University students submitted 57 different projects for the recent Spring Senior and Student Show held in the University’s Cortona Art Gallery.

“We had a wide selection of work from traditional oil paintings to collage pieces,” said Anna Pagnucci, Ashford art professor and gallery director. “We also had a selection of digital work that was displayed on a TV and cycled through animations and still digital imagery. This exhibition really illustrated the wide range of our student talent. It was open to all Ashford students, so we had business and biology majors displaying their works alongside those of visual art and computer graphic design majors. There are a lot of students who have artistic talent even if art is not their chosen career field.”

On April 16 a closing reception was held for the student artists and the following awards were presented:

Photography – First: Emmanuel Teles (Clinton, Iowa) for “After a Snowstorm” and Honorable Mention: Alex Richie (St. Louis, Mo.) for “Nicole Lohaus Van Otterloo.”

Rendering/Drawing/Pastel – First: Keosha Westphal (Muscatine, Iowa) for “Fade” and Honorable Mention: Alex Miner (Dysart, Iowa) for “Render 1.”

Acrylic/Watercolor/Oil – First: Corrine Hubbard (Machesney Park, Ill.) for “Daisies” and Honorable Mention: Leah Coenen (Fremont, Wisc.) for “Evening Snow.”
