San Diego's Inspirational Teachers and Students Recognized for Excellence in the Classroom and in the Community
Celebratory evening sponsored by Ashford University

Some of San Diego’s most inspirational teachers and students were recognized last night at an event sponsored by Ashford University. The celebration honored Inspirational Teacher of the Month and Inspirational Student of the Month nominees over the past year.

“Ashford University is a proud sponsor of this event. We understand the vital role teachers play in helping to shape our children’s future, and it is important to recognize both teachers and students who go above and beyond to help make the classroom an energetic environment that fosters learning,” said Dr. Elizabeth Tice, executive vice president of academic affairs at Ashford University, who presented at the event.

Each month, NBC 7 San Diego, in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education, highlights an inspirational teacher and student of the month based on nominations. Criteria for inspirational teacher include being a dedicated educator who brings energy, enthusiasm and creativity to the classroom every day. Similarly, inspirational students are nominated for being an outstanding individual on his or her high school campus and within the community.

“There are 26,000 teachers and nearly 500,000 students in San Diego County, and this program recognizes some of the best,” said Dr. Randolph E. Ward, San Diego County superintendent of schools. “We hear a lot about the things that are going wrong in the world, but not much of the good news. Thanks to the generous support of Ashford University, the ‘Inspirational’ segments provide a look at some of the tremendous work happening each day in classrooms across the county.”

Monthly winners over the past year, along with their nominators and guests, and school officials, enjoyed a reception in their honor on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012. The reception was held at Ashford University’s San Diego location.
