Three Clinton Area Teachers Receive Ashford University Scholarships
Teachers will enroll in online master's degree program

For the fourth consecutive year, three area teachers have been awarded scholarships to enroll in one of Ashford University’s online master’s degree programs. Elizabeth Byam, Jason Lansing and Aubree Rhoades have all registered for Ashford’s master of arts in education or the master of arts in teaching and learning with technology program.

“Our area’s teachers are the most talented in the nation. Their dedication to their students is unparalleled,” said Dr. Joen Rottler-Larson, dean of Ashford’s college of education. “Our university is committed to the improvement of teaching and learning and, for the fourth year, is proud to offer three full scholarships to our area's finest educators.”

Rottler-Larson noted that the scholarships include full program tuition, all books, and a technology fee waiver. The scholarship recipients were recognized during the annual “Ashford University Night with the Clinton LumberKings” event held Saturday, April 20.

Elizabeth Byam has been teaching for four years and is a fourth grade teacher at Fulton Elementary School. She is a graduate of Western Illinois University.

Aubree Rhoades graduated from Ashford University in 2009. She has been teaching for four years and is an eighth grade language arts teacher at Lyons Middle School in Clinton.

Jason Lansing, an alternative high school and credit recovery teacher at Central Clinton High School, received degrees from Ashford University and Wartburg College.

Also recognized at the April 20 event was 2013 Ashford University “Teacher of the Year,” Teri Howe, who has been teaching at Northeast Schools for 33 years.
