Nearly a dozen Ashford University graduates were among the military members who were recognized this morning for their outstanding academic achievements in the 10th annual graduate recognition ceremony held at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif. As the events keynote speaker for distance learning schools, Ashford University President Dr. Richard Pattenaude, who was a member of the United States Army and served in Vietnam, delivered an inspiring message to graduates.
“You made the decision to face your doubts, pushed past obstacles, and dedicated yourself to pursuing the goal of a university education,” Dr. Pattenaude said during his speech. “You have now achieved that goal. More importantly, you have seized control of your own destiny and you have laid the foundation for the rest of your life. Take pride in that accomplishment.”
In front of an audience of family, friends and other military personnel, about 50 active duty service members, spouses and civilian employees were honored for their hard work and sacrifice in completing their higher educational goals and attaining degrees from several universities, including Ashford University.
The celebration, which took place at 10 a.m. in the Protestant Chapel on base, does not take the place of commencement ceremonies held at the graduates’ respective universities.
