While in town for the Virginia Advisory Council on Military Education (VA-ACME) Symposium in Virginia Beach, Va., Ashford’s Career and Alumni Services team took the opportunity to host a student and alumni event on March 28 at the Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant. The event provided student, alumni, and military and veteran student attendees the opportunity to network.
Michael Camden, president of VA-ACME, spoke at Ashford’s student and alumni event and recognized Ashford during the conference, encouraging other institutions to follow Ashford’s example. “I commend Ashford University in their unconditional support to its military and veteran students, as well as the VA-ACME,” said Camden. “The university has done an excellent job in hosting an event catered to students, alumni, and the military community within the Virginia Beach area, to meet and discuss topics to include military education.”
Offering welcome remarks during the event was Wendy Sickora, director of military education outreach at Ashford. “Ashford has worked hard to organize this event, and will continue to focus on providing our military and veteran students with the educational opportunities and support they deserve,” said Sickora. “We are committed to serving the military community.”
Dr. Christine Bacon, author of the book titled Super Couples and host of the Virginia Beach Friday morning talk show, “Breakfast With Bacon” who served as guest speaker for the Ashford-hosted mixer, discussed communication strategies during the event.
The VA-ACME is a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to promoting meaningful education for members from all branches of the Armed Services. The annual symposium was held this year in Virginia Beach from March 28 to 30. For more information on Virginia ACME, visit http://www.vaacme.org/.
